UK phone numbers?

Postby Magma » Thu Mar 09, 2006 4:22 pm

Hello everyone. I'm new here and I'm happy I found this forum! :)

End of last year someone from the UK called me on my mobile. And when I tried to phone back, there was a German announcement telling me this number is not as*igned.

I did a research at http://www.ukphoneinfo.com and it says, this number is potentially valid.
So I think this 'someone' is forwarding incoming calls to a German mobile number that doesn't exist.

ukphoneinfo.com located that number in SW London, Horseferry Road at Magistrates' Court. Not a location from where I expect phone calls you cannot call back, definitely!

Alas, the links here: http://detectiveforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=45 couldn't help me. They're all for the States, I think.
Any ideas to trace back a number from the UK?

Thanx in advance :)

Greetings Magma!

The first thing I would do is type the number directly into all of the major UK search engines. Search engine spiders crawl everything they come across from general content to phone numbers. If you put quotation marks around the phone number the search listings will be much more accurate.

For example: If the UK number is 24 992 9392 -

Search for "24 992 9392"

www.aol.co.uk
www.msn.co.uk
www.freeserve.com
www.ntl.com
www.yahoo.co.uk
www.looksmart.co.uk
www.ukplus.com
www.google.co.uk
www.lycos.co.uk
www.altavista.co.uk
www.mirago.co.uk
www.ask.co.uk
www.great-british-pages.co.uk

The second thing I would do is post back - and tell us if it was indexed under UK's major search engines.

Did you talk to the person? A lot of businesses now and days have tools that mask their phone number with a different phone number. One time my local BlockBuster video store called me from 999 999 9999 and another time I got a call from an internet business from the number 01234567890

Good luck on your investigation...

Yeah that's what I did first at google.com. Do you think I'll find more using UK search engines?

No I didn't talk to the person, I was busy at the time. But I tried to call back, as you already know quite unsuccessfull.

I know about that. I'm from Germany and it happens from time to time that I receive calls from German call centers. Strange numbers they use sometimes, thats right. But, if this call was from a british call center, how the hell do they know that I'm able to speak English? :? Most Germans don't...

Heh :) - You said that when you call the number - it traces back to a British call center? What do call centers usually call people for overseas? I'm not too familiar with them.

Maybe - they forwarded the call through another phone number. Was it someone that had a grudge against you?

Did you call your phone provider. Usually - if someone threatened you (you can tell them that) they can give you more direct information about the call. They all keep logs. At least in the US.

Hey 4MyInfo - Welcome to the boards!
Simply Go to the following sites:
www.google.co.uk
www.lycos.co.uk
www.altavista.co.uk
www.yahoo.co.uk

Enter the number in the search box. If the number is 245 772 8823 just enter that number directly inside the search box and press enter.

Here is a tip: Put quotation marks around the number to produce better results. So if the phone number was 245 772 8823 put quotation marks around it so it looks like this: "245 772 8823".

I would like to hear back from both of you! (magma and 4myinfo)

Did you find what you were looking for?

Magma - 4myInfo

Also try to see if the phone number was from a payphone. Visit the page below for a list of UK phone numbers.
