Hi to everybody! I’m new to the field of researching public records and I have a few questions which I couldn’t figure out yet. I hope someone can help me.

Specifically I’m looking for all kinds of court records throughout the State of Ohio. Most of the County courts have their own Website and search function. Looking at the fact that each county has several different courts and, in turn, Ohio has a lot of counties, performing a REAL Statewide court record search would be almost impossible.

I’ve seen a few Background check services on the Internet, such as Intelius, us-Search and so on (I hope I didn’t violate any Board rules by naming them) but I’m not sure if they can do a real thorough search through EVERY court in the State. They advertize that they can do “Background Checks” and criminal checks, but I’m interested in civil court records too, especially court ordera about the custody of children, foster care and so on.
So I got 2 Questions:

1. Can anybody recommend a good public record search service to me that REALLY goes thru every court system in the State of Ohio?

2. When I did searches on the county court database which was on their website, all I could see there was a short overview of the court action and the docket entries. I guess nobody who didn’t spend a few years at a law school can really use the information that is contained in the dockets. So the question is: Is there a way to request the actual court order of that case? Maybe thru the Freedom of information act or any other (written) request?

I would like to thank everybody who helps me here in advance

I am new to this site and am not sure its even going to be helpful, I am trying to get info on a shipwreck that my grandmother was on and not sure she was ever found, I have some old news clippings (1919) and want to find anything from a coroner or undertaker that made reports of a body found, what became of the body, who it was released to etc.
Also interested in cold case files but how do you go back to early years (1963-64) any help would be appreciated, I have joined a few sites that I paid for and they aren't any help at all and don't want to spend anymore money for no results. I have been able to get some things on my own but court or police records are not available so far. Thanks for any help, went to the public record site but how to find old info isn't there or I am not sure how to do it
